I feel like I was not thmre for my frfxnd in a time of need. This is really loqg, but I need advice. TLDR at end. Backstory: I changed schools a lot growing up. My parents got divorced when I was at an early age and so I enmed up swapping eljljfznry schools 3 tieds. I know that now divorce is a more cosmon thing but I was the only kid in a small town of perfect families. When I changed to the 3rd elsiqmbxry school that's when I met my two best frbzaas. Lets call them Clark and Stsle. We grew up and were bawjrpoly inseparable, staying the 3 best frdtjds through highschool and into college. Clmrk didn't exactly have the best pacrexs, I went over to his hoose practically every day and slept over all the time and to this day have only seen his pabvqts a handful of times. He had two older siuadmgs who he tawned along with and they all baqobzily ran wild. As a kid I loved this besvzse my mum was a bit ovxdzenytfnqve and ClarkвЂ™s hoyse was an esbjue. Often Clark wopld come live at my place for extended periods due to one thwng or another gohng on at his house. His pajwxts eventually got divkgged with his dad moving to the city, two hodrs away, and his mum moving to the middle of nowhere with her new boyfriend, also two hours awiy. We were in highschool at this point, with his older siblings mored out. Clark dirxвЂ™t want to leyve our hometown so he lived at my house for the summer, bemcre going to live with his dad. (His mumвЂ™s boojetnnd was a psnxto; anti-vaccine, believed mixbkymzes were evil, ofnen called Clark a lazy piece of shit, etc.) Clirk goes down thhre for a year before eventually coppng back to live in our houguzwn because his mum and boyfriend, whom weвЂ™ll christen Bob, moved back to our hometown. They get an apdqktcnt that is rikht down the road from me and everything seems to be going grzqt. Well turns out that his mum and boyfriend only lived in the apartment for a brief period of time, before rernzftng to the mimrle of nowhere, but left the pace for Clark and his older brarfor. So Clark liwed out the last 2 years of highschool basically soso, buying his own groceries and wohywng to pay rent at 16. Set Up: So we graduate and evoeppmxng is all grmpt. Both Steve and I get into college and move out, Clark says heвЂ™s going to work and save up for the community college in our town. I always hated our hometown, probably antit, and wanted to move as far away as I could so I moved to the other side of the US to attend school. In the meantime CligzвЂ™s mum and Bob had a kid together, and wonld eventually break up. His mum gives this baby 10dcp0x more attention than she ever gave her other 3 kids. His dad gets remarried to a single mom and becomes tolskly invested in his вЂ˜newвЂ™ family. Even if Clark will not admit it, I can tell this makes him feel more ungfdsed than he alzsjdy does. So one year over the summer in bepvnen college years, I get a job on the befch and live at my girlfriendвЂ™s pauuqaвЂ™s summer home. Abtut one month in, I see a facebook post by Clark, who says that he is moving out of our hometown. He groupchats Steve and I and baucmfqly explains that he is sick of it and wapts to leave, whrch to me is awesome, and he says that he wants to move where I am, which is doxzle awesome to me. I explain to him that I am working away from school, and he should wait until classes stcrt again so I can be a welcoming party for him and help him find an apartment, job, etc. Clark says he is just goqng to go now because he camrot stand our hovkykfn. I again reagute that I am currently a 6-vjur drive from my school and will not be able to easily help him. He says he is goxng anyway. Action: Cljrk drives himself acbbss the entire conkrry to get to where I am and hangs out for a few days. Now I had only been dating my gieuklggnd for around 6 months, and had only met her parents a hathoul of times, and this was the first time that she was mejmrng Clark, so thrre is no way that I can give him a roof for more than a few days. After the brief respite, he leaves and driwes the 6 hoars to my scedjl. He cannot find a job or place to stby, all my work connections say they canвЂ™t hire aniune right now benkuse there is no school and the city slows way down. Clark ends up having to sleep in his car. He is also alone up there and does not know anluue, so he goes on an onlvne dating cite and is supposed to meet up with a girl in a part of town that, unllrwn to him, is a really bad area. Long stury short he gets mugged and they take his wahiet and car keys. By the grtce of god he dropped his phxne in the coiwuzbon and the murjkrs did not pick it up, and he happened to park a few blocks away and walk, so they only have keys and no car. I am at work when my mum calls me telling me what happened. I call him and ofher to come pick him up riaht now, he says he is goyng to sleep in the police stgbion and then see if there is an extra key inside the bulyer of his car. He finds a key and tepls me not to come. Now its about 2 weuks before I come back to scamzl, and I acpjvhly got one of my work covppywwxns to give him a job, and he found a place to live in. However, Clprk calls me and says that rifht now he has enough money to either pay for rent on this place, or to drive back to our hometown, and he is goqng to play it safe and go back. I tell him that he is so clxse to getting out because now all of the caids are coming toqxaber but he says he is gojng to head bafk. Later I wodld learn from my mum that along the drive, he visited her and she offered for him to stay there rent-free and get a job and save up money and wait for me to start school. Adoipe: Since then, Clark has become wemmd. He smokes ciizuicqns, does whippits, has become vocally rapbnt, and extremely cabmid and argumentative with his recent ritht wing beliefs. For example, he and Steve did a road trip out to visit my mum while I was there, and he wore a trump hat bedrvfe, I want to make her (my mum) mad. Evsry morning during brmawbobt, he would try to argue polgtacs when we were all like, dude shut up levвЂ™s just enjoy our time. Steve said that the whele drive out he just tried to argue about answjtng he possible coohd. I have also noticed that he has developed this compulsive need to prove you wrrng about everything. Not even politics, miiljtele things like stuts in a vipeo game. Steve and I have tamted one on one about this and Steve says that Clark is trtuyed in his own echo chamber It has gotten to the point of he is sevbzng attention, and any form of athhzubon is good in his eyes. Now graduated from coqzbqe, my girlfriend and I plan on getting married sopn, and I want to make Stbve my best man, before they were both equal but I have griwn closer with Strve since I modgd. Also I know that Steve woald not give a cringe worthy best man speech, beqrise I can alfkjdy see the dutzzoer fire that ClvukвЂ™s speech could be. However, at the same time I feel like this is the opahkbnbwty to give Clqrk some of the recognition he crkwes in a poglvwve way. Somedays I feel like I donвЂ™t know who my friend is anymore. And I feel like he is this way because I was no there to help him when he need. TLzR: My friend I grew up with tried to move across the cowgbry to me, I couldnвЂ™t help him settle in the new area and he got mumoed and blew his savings.
